چکیده
MBD and breast cancer risk Elevated MBD is considered one of the strongest risk factors for breast cancer regardless of whether it is assessed as a categorical or quantitative measure.6 Women in the highest categories of breast density have a 4to 6-fold increased breast cancer risk compared with women in the lowest categories. MBD has been shown to be a stronger risk factor for breast cancer than any others except age and genetic mutations.6 !e association between MBD and breast cancer has been seen both in older and younger women undergoing screening mammograms, as well as in Caucasian and non-Caucasian populations.4,6,7

Investigating the Factors Affecting the Mammographic Density of Breast Tissue in Patients Referred to the Breast Cancer Research Center, Iran
Introduction: Of the factors leading to false negative results in mammography is breast tissue density, and by increasing the density of breast tissue in mammography, the mammography sensitivity decreases. On the other hand, increasing the breast tissue density leads to increased risk of breast cancer. Various factors such as inheritance, genetics, hormonal and reproductive factors, and nutriti...

متن کاملMammographic density: a potential monitoring biomarker for adjuvant and preventative breast cancer endocrine therapies
Increased mammographic density (MD) has been shown beyond doubt to be a marker for increased breast cancer risk, though the underpinning pathobiology is yet to be fully elucidated. Estrogenic activity exerts a strong influence over MD, which consequently has been observed to change predictably in response to tamoxifen anti-estrogen therapy, although results for other selective estrogen receptor...
متن کاملHair product use, age at menarche and mammographic breast density in multiethnic urban women
BACKGROUND Select hair products contain endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) that may affect breast cancer risk. We hypothesize that, if EDCs are related to breast cancer risk, then they may also affect two important breast cancer risk factors: age at menarche and mammographic breast density. METHODS In two urban female cohorts (N = 248): 1) the New York site of the National Collaborative Pe...
متن کاملCirculating carotenoids, mammographic density, and subsequent risk of breast cancer.
Mammographic density is one of the strongest predictors of breast cancer risk. Recently, it has been suggested that reactive oxygen species may influence breast cancer risk through its influence on mammographic density. In the current study, we addressed this hypothesis and also assessed if the association between carotenoids and breast cancer risk varies by mammographic density. We conducted a...
